Taxing your vehicle

Vehicles registered before 1st March 2002 are subject to rates of vehicle excise duty (road tax to you and me) that vary depending on engine size.

Vehicles registered on or after 1st March 2001 are subject to rates of excise duty (road tax to you and me) that vary depending on their CO2 emissions levels. The emission level of your vehicle is listed on your V5 registration document (log book).

In order to tax your vehicle you will need to take the filled out V10 form to a complying Post Office (not all Post offices will tax vehicles) along with your current MOT and a valid insurance certificate. If there is a change in circumstances, such as address, you will need to fill out the relevant section on your registration document and produce that as well.
