Tyre safety

Need car tyres? Dont leave it too late. Did you know that driving your car on low tread could greatly reduce your stopping distance even at the legal tread wear levels?

Your car tyres are your only contact with the road and as they get closer to the minimum legal limit their effectiveness may be greatly reduced, particularly in wet conditions.

Your braking, accelrating and steering can all be affected by poor tyre condition and low tyre wear.

If you allow your tyres to wear beyond the legal limit you are putting yourself and your passengers at risk. You will also invalidate your car insurance.

Your car tyres are vitally important and may not cost as much as you think to replace.

Check your tyres today, it will only takes a few minutes. If you are not sure, read on and we will show you how.

We have teamed up with MyTyres to provide you with an instant quote for sales and fitting of quality car tyres for you.

It could not be simpler; just enter your requirements in the box above and click for a quote...

How to check you tyres

Checking your tyres is easy and should be done on a regular basis; once a month at least.

  • Check the tread depth of you tyres
You can buy a cheap tool for this at any motoring store. The legal limit is 1.6mm across 75% of the tyre. The closer you are to this limit the less grip you will have. Ideally we would suggest changing your tyres at 2mm.
  • Check your tyre walls
Check the condition or you tyre walls. Any rips or damage to these areas can weaken your tyre and increase the chance of puncture.
  • Check your tyre pressure
You can buy a tool for this at your local motoring store. Consult your manufacturers handbook for the recommended pressures. The wrong tyre pressure can affect the handling of your vehicle and increase wear. Allow your tyres to cool before checking the pressure.
  • Alignment and balancing
If your tyres are unevenly worn across the tread but the pressure is correct then it could mean that your wheels need aligning correctly. When having new car tyres fitted your tyre fitter should align and balance your wheels for you.
